Features

GCRYPT features: encryption, compression and passwords.

GCRYPT V0.1.0 provides encryption, decryption, compression, compression + encryption, and password generation without changing the GCRYPT V1 or V2 cryptographic formats.

ENCRYPT

File or direct text → GCRYPT V1 container.

  • Any file type is processed as raw bytes.
  • At least 12 password characters are required by the interface.
  • Argon2id derives a 256-bit key.
  • XChaCha20-Poly1305 provides authenticated encryption.
  • Original name, extension, and exact size are protected inside encrypted metadata.

DECRYPT

Automatic reading of V1 and V2 containers.

  • Restoration occurs only after the container has been validated.
  • A generic message is shown for a wrong password or tampered file.
  • Protection against unsafe restored names.
  • Work-file writing followed by the final name only after success.
  • Button to open the output folder after a successful operation.

COMPRESS

File or folder → standard ZIP archive, without encryption.

  • Deflate Fast 1 / Balanced 6 / Maximum 9.
  • Folder structure and empty folders are preserved.
  • Symbolic links are rejected.
  • Collision-safe names: name (2).zip.
  • The ZIP is reopened and entries/CRC are checked before success is reported.

COMPRESS + ENCRYPT

File or folder → Zstandard → GCRYPT V2.

  • Zstandard Fast 1 / Balanced 3 / Maximum 19.
  • For folders: internal TAR stream, then compression and encryption.
  • No unencrypted temporary file is created by the normal pipeline.
  • Path and entry-type checks are applied during restoration.
  • V2 interoperability is tested across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

PASSWORD

Local generation using the operating system CSPRNG.

  • Length from 8 to 256 characters, default 24.
  • Uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols can be configured.
  • Option to exclude ambiguous characters.
  • At least one character from every enabled category.
  • Theoretical entropy estimate for generated passwords.

SETTINGS

Non-sensitive local preferences.

  • Language: Automatic / Français / English, applied immediately.
  • Dark or light theme inside the application.
  • Memory purge after 1, 5, 15, 30, 60 minutes, or disabled.
  • Immediate manual purge.
  • Integrated .gcrypt association management on Windows.
  • About section with version and platform.
